What HRD is doing in terms of equality

DESY wants to promote equality between women and men. Human Resources Development has the task of strategically aligning equality for the employer and implementing it through concrete measures.

To this end, the DESY Directorate has now adopted and implemented an equality plan for a second term from 2024 to 2027. It contains a comprehensive gender analysis, describes existing measures and services and defines 14 specific measures and projects in five fields of action. An internal DESY working group is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the gender equality plan. A short version can be viewed here.

We promote gender equality, for example, by creating opportunities to get girls and young women in particular interested in STEM subjects and to help increase the proportion of women in technical and engineering professions at DESY.
DESY has regularly participated in Future Day, better known as Girls' and Boys' Day, for many years. The Future Day is a day of action for gender-sensitive professional orientation and is intended to help expand the traditional, gender-specific spectrum of possible professions for women and men. Girls therefore get to know technical and scientific jobs at DESY, while boys get to know the HR department and other administrative groups, for example. The aim is to contribute to gender equality in professional life in the long term.

Furthermore, in cooperation with Recruitment, Human Resources Development organizes specific information events for prospective female engineers, establishes cooperation with schools and optimizes a concept for placing girls in internships.

Of course, DESY also has an equal opportunities officer and women's representatives who represent the interests of women and men at DESY and promote equality for both genders.
