Diversity & Inclusion
Diversity and inclusion in the workplace make an important contribution to treating diversity and individuality with respect and without discrimination across dimensions such as gender, origin, age, sexual orientation, religion, and physical and mental abilities. DESY has committed itself to equal opportunities and diversity in its foundation statutes and joined the Diversity Charter in June 2021. We are following up on these commitments with action in various areas.
We are currently implementing the “READY - Recruitment and Diversity at DESY” project. With the support of funding from the Helmholtz Association, we are working on concepts and measures in six subprojects to make personnel selection processes more diversity-sensitive. The goals are to attract and retain diverse people for DESY, to strengthen participation at DESY as a whole, and to create a sense of genuine belonging and fulfillment of one's own potential at DESY.
We organize a variety of events and networking opportunities, such as the annual Diversity Day or a Diversity Roundtable as a bottom-up initiative, which offers an open forum and participation in the design of measures for all DESY employees interested in diversity and inclusion.
In 2023/2024, DESY conducted an anonymous and voluntary survey of all employees on diversity, equal opportunities, and participation. This provides us with a solid empirical basis for our diversity and inclusion management, which we use to help make DESY a discrimination-free, inclusive, and fair place to work.
DESY has established a comprehensive information system with all relevant stakeholders in order to be able to offer help when needed. We are constantly working on optimization to provide the best possible preventive protection against discrimination and harassment, which are not accepted at DESY.
