Goal: The annual appraisal at DESY is a personnel development tool. They serve to improve communication and open reflection on the work situation between employees and managers. The annual appraisal is intended to promote clarity and commitment between employees and managers. Realistic goals for the respective area are agreed upon and qualification needs and measures are jointly identified. Furthermore, development perspectives are to be identified.

Method: The “JAG” is a structured conversation between employee and supervisor that should take about 1.5 hours. Discussion topics include current and future tasks, work environment, job satisfaction, leadership and cooperation as well as development perspectives including qualification interventions.

Process: The annual appraisal interviews at DESY take place between March and June of each year. It’s the responsibility of the supervisor to schedule a date and time and to invite their respective employees approx. 2 weeks before the meeting. For structured documentation of the results, a work sheet is available under "Information". Once conducted, the annual appraisal interviews are recorded in the “JAG database” by both employee and supervisor.
